Project Manager

Hazelwood Engineering is a dynamic organization focusing on custom residential, multi-family, and industrial building design services across the Intermountain West. As part of their expansion, they are seeking a self-motivated and ambitious Structural Project Manager to increase their technical and leadership capabilities rapidly.

Role Overview: Structural Project Manager

The position involves leading structural design projects from the conceptual phase through construction, focusing on wood, concrete, masonry and steel structures. Projects can range from residential additions to industrial warehouses. The role requires managing schedules, budgets, and client interactions, as well as mentoring junior staff while engaging in hands-on analysis, modeling, and production.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Oversee all phases from schematic design to construction administration.
  • Client and Team Coordination: Act as the main contact for clients and projects, coordinating with architects, contractors, and consultants.
  • Design and Review: Produce and assess structural analyses, calculations, and construction drawings, utilizing finite-element and BIM tools.
  • Team Development: Lead and mentor junior engineers and drafters, delegating tasks and ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Project Management: Handle project scope, schedules, budgets, billing, and risk management.
  • Construction Support: Provide support such as shop drawing and RFI reviews, site visits, and coordination with contractors.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct QA/QC reviews, ensuring compliance with building codes and standards, and documenting design choices.
  • Cultural Contribution: Engage in company culture and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field (continuation in qualifications expected).
  • PE licensure (required)
  • Knowledge of Revit (required)
  • 5 years minimum experience with relevant experience (required)
  • Working knowledge of engineering for tilt-up and post-tensioned concrete structures (preferred)

Phoenix or Salt Lake City Project Engineer

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

· Participate in comprehensive training and development program

· Modeling of buildings and production of structural drawings in Revit

· Perform structural analysis, design and detailing of wood, concrete, and steel structures under the supervision of senior engineers

· Think independently and contribute cooperatively: Be exploratory in coming up with solutions and contribute as a part of a team with a larger goal

· Execute tasks as directed by project manager

· Positively contribute to company culture

· Provide construction administration services including shop drawing/RFI review
‍· Monitor project budgets and communicate with managers about scheduling

In addition to being self-driven and ambitious with serious attention to detail, the ideal candidate will have the following:

· Must have a Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering (Master of Science is preferred)

· PE certification (Required)

· 3-5 years experience in Structural Engineering (Required)

· Knowledge of Excel and Revit (desired but not required…we can train you)

· Capability to work in a team environment, supporting the success of both coworkers and clients

· Goal-oriented with a desire to grow

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

. Working knowledge of engineering for wood buildings
